Bengaluru Junior Student Arrested for Rape of Senior on College Campus

BENGALURU, Oct. 17, 2025

A shocking incident of sexual assault occurred at a private engineering college in Bengaluru, where a junior student allegedly raped his senior on campus. The accused, Jeevan Gowda, has been arrested by the Hanumanthanagar Police and remanded to judicial custody. Authorities are investigating the case amid limited CCTV coverage and are examining digital and physical evidence to build the case.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the survivor is a B.Tech student in her seventh semester. She had known Jeevan Gowda for approximately three months prior to the incident. On October 10, Jeevan reportedly contacted her several times during lunch, asking her to meet near the architecture block of the college. When she met him, he allegedly forced a kiss, dragged her into the men’s washroom, locked the door, and raped her between 1:30 and 1:50 pm.

After the assault, the survivor managed to escape and confided in her friends before informing her parents. A formal complaint was filed with the police on October 15. Disturbingly, police reported that Jeevan even called her after the incident, asking if she “needed a pill,” suggesting he was aware of the possibility of pregnancy resulting from the assault.

The attack occurred on campus, and both the accused and the survivor belong to the same department of the college. Police have noted that no CCTV footage was available in the area where the assault took place. Forensic teams are working to gather all possible evidence from the scene, including digital records and physical traces, to strengthen the case.

This incident has raised serious concerns about student safety within college premises and the need for strict security measures in educational institutions. Authorities have assured that the investigation will be thorough and that appropriate legal action will be taken against the accused.

This case is not isolated. Bengaluru has seen other similar incidents in recent months. In August, a woman was allegedly raped by the owner of a Paying Guest accommodation she had moved into just ten days earlier. In that case, the accused, Ashraf, reportedly forced the woman into his car late on a Saturday night and took her to a secluded location, where he assaulted her. He was later arrested by the police.

The recurrence of such cases has prompted discussions on improving safety protocols in colleges and hostels, including the installation of CCTV cameras, better campus security, and awareness programs for students on reporting sexual harassment.

Police officials have urged survivors of sexual assault to report incidents promptly and assured that every effort will be made to provide them protection and support throughout the investigation. Legal experts stress the importance of strict enforcement of laws and speedy trials to ensure justice for victims.

The Bengaluru junior student rape case highlights the urgent need for increased vigilance on campuses and stronger measures to prevent such crimes. Authorities continue to work on gathering all evidence and have appealed to the public and students to remain alert and report suspicious activities immediately. The case remains under active investigation.
