Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday unveiled a landmark promise for Bihar, pledging that if the INDIA bloc comes to power in the state, every family will receive at least one government job. Speaking at a press conference in Patna, Yadav said the government would introduce a new law within 20 days of assuming office, with implementation completed within 20 months, ensuring employment for all families currently without government jobs.

Highlighting his previous tenure as deputy chief minister, Yadav claimed that during 17 months in office, he had already provided employment to thousands and laid the groundwork for additional opportunities. “During my short tenure, five lakh government jobs were filled. Imagine the scale of what could have been achieved in a full five-year term,” he remarked.

Yadav sharply criticised the incumbent NDA government, accusing it of neglecting unemployment in Bihar for two decades. He noted that the ruling administration had failed to address the economic challenges facing youth and claimed that many of his party’s previous proposals had been copied by the government without proper implementation. “This 20-year-old administration has ignored the real issue — jobs for the youth,” he said, stressing that economic justice must accompany social justice.

The RJD leader emphasised that his pledge was backed by thorough data and surveys, promising that the proposed employment program is both realistic and achievable. “We have collected all necessary information, conducted surveys, and are confident that this plan is practical. We do not make promises we cannot deliver,” Yadav added.

He described his plan as a way to ensure both social and economic equity, stating that structured job creation through legislation would empower families across Bihar. “After ensuring social justice, economic justice is the next step. Jobs are essential for dignity and progress,” he said.

While focusing on this announcement, Yadav refrained from commenting on other political matters such as seat-sharing, leadership declarations, or alliances within the INDIA bloc. “This press conference was solely to share this major employment promise. Other political issues will be addressed later,” he noted.

The announcement comes in the midst of several welfare initiatives from the Nitish Kumar-led government, including free electricity units, examination fee waivers, and direct cash transfers under schemes like the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana. Critics have labeled these moves as “poll bribes,” but Yadav insisted that his approach differs, focusing on systemic and sustainable job creation rather than short-term handouts.

With this bold employment guarantee, Tejashwi Yadav positions the INDIA bloc as a major contender in Bihar, promising to address unemployment through legislative action and large-scale, well-planned government recruitment, while asserting that every eligible family will benefit from this initiative within 20 months of coming to power.
