September 27, 2025  | New Delhi

Uttar Pradesh witnessed a troubling incident in Sitapur district this week when a headmaster allegedly attacked a Basic Education Officer (BEO) during an official inquiry. The state’s Minister of Technical Education, Ashish Patel, described the episode as extremely unfortunate and emphasized the need for a fair and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault.

Incident at Nadwa Primary School

The headmaster, identified as Brijendra Verma of Nadwa Primary School in Mahmudabad, Sitapur, reportedly assaulted BEO Akhilesh Pratap Singh during an inquiry into a complaint from the school staff. The complaint alleged that Verma was harassing an assistant teacher at the school.

According to Singh, he summoned the headmaster to his office to resolve the issue. The inquiry was conducted by having both the headmaster and the assistant teacher present, allowing witnesses to determine the facts of the matter.

Assault During Inquiry

Singh recounted that when the assembled individuals indicated that the headmaster had indeed engaged in harassment, Verma allegedly lost his temper. He reportedly took out his belt and attacked the BEO in the office. Officials confirmed that Verma was immediately handed over to the police following the incident.

The BEO’s statement indicated that the attack was sudden and unprovoked during the official proceedings. The incident has since prompted widespread concern regarding workplace conduct and disciplinary processes in government-run schools.

Government Response

Minister Ashish Patel addressed the media on Friday, describing Verma as “a hardworking, honest, and regular school attendee” who had allegedly been provoked to lose his temper. In a post on X, Patel stated, “It is unfair to unilaterally blame a teacher based on a mere 20-second video clip. The circumstances that led to this incident must be thoroughly investigated.”

He added that CCTV footage from the time Verma entered the BEO office until the end of the incident should be reviewed to ensure strict action against anyone found guilty.

Patel also mentioned that he has spoken with Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh, who assured him that an impartial investigation will be conducted and that strict disciplinary measures will be applied wherever warranted.

Immediate Actions Taken

Following the assault, the headmaster has been suspended from his duties by the BEO with immediate effect. Police have taken Verma into custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.

Officials confirmed that the investigation will focus not only on the assault but also on the allegations of harassment against the assistant teacher, in order to determine the full context of the confrontation.

Calls for Fair Inquiry

The incident has sparked discussions about accountability, workplace conduct, and the pressures faced by school officials in Uttar Pradesh. Government authorities have stressed that while disciplinary action is necessary, understanding the circumstances that led to the confrontation is equally important to ensure justice for all parties involved.

As the inquiry progresses, officials and educators alike are watching closely to see that the case is handled transparently and that both victims and accused receive fair treatment under the law.
