Political activity in Bihar has picked up after the Election Commission announced biennial elections for nine Legislative Council seats along with a bypoll for the vacant seat earlier held by Nitish Kumar. The announcement has triggered fresh political discussions as major parties begin preparing their strategies for the upcoming contest.

The seats going to polls include those currently held by Dr. Kumud Verma, Prof. Ghulam Gaus, Mohammad Farooq, Bhishma Sahni, Shribhagwan Singh Kushwaha, Sanjay Prakash, Sameer Kumar Singh, Samrat Choudhary and Sunil Kumar Singh, whose terms are ending soon. Political parties are now actively working on candidate selection and internal planning ahead of the elections.

Apart from the regular council elections, attention is also centred on the bypoll for the vacant seat previously represented by Nitish Kumar. The contest is expected to carry political significance, with both the NDA and the opposition alliance likely to use the election as an opportunity to showcase their strength in the state.

According to the Election Commission’s schedule, the nomination process will begin on June 1, while candidates can file papers until June 8. Voting will take place on June 18 and the counting of votes will be conducted on the same day. The entire election process is expected to conclude by June 20, making the polls an important political event ahead of future electoral battles in Bihar.
