Three Generations From Hyderabad Perish in Saudi Arabia Pilgrim Bus Crash
Hyderabad, November 17, 2025
A heartbreaking tragedy has struck a Hyderabad family, with 18 members—spanning three generations, including nine children—among the 42 Indian pilgrims killed in a devastating road accident near Medina in Saudi Arabia. The group had traveled for Umrah and was returning to Medina when the crash occurred.
According to family member Mohammed Asif, his relatives had left for Umrah eight days earlier, having completed their pilgrimage and preparing to return home by Saturday. However, around 1:30 am, their bus collided with a diesel tanker roughly 30 km from Medina. The impact caused a massive fire that quickly engulfed the vehicle, leaving passengers with little chance to escape, especially as many were asleep at the time.
Asif shared that they were in regular contact with the family until tragedy struck. He identified some of those who died: 70-year-old Naseeruddin, his wife Akhter Begum, their son Salauddin, daughters Amina, Rizwana, and Shabana, along with their children. All 18 relatives were traveling together.
Most of the victims in the crash were from Hyderabad. The sudden blaze triggered by the collision made rescue nearly impossible. The remains of the bus paint a grim picture of the intensity of the fire.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow, stating his condolences for the families who lost their loved ones and praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. He added that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah were providing all necessary support and closely coordinating with Saudi authorities.
The Indian Consulate in Jeddah has set up a 24x7 control room and helpline to assist families, offering a toll-free number for inquiries and help.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also expressed grief over the tragedy, urging officials to stay in touch with Indian authorities in Saudi Arabia and assuring support to the affected families. He said the government stands with them during this unimaginably painful time.
This devastating incident has left an entire community shaken, as one family lost multiple generations in a single night—a loss beyond words.
