Heavy rain in central Vietnam led to a tragic landslide on Sunday evening, claiming the lives of at least six passengers traveling by bus. The incident occurred as continuous downpour pounded the region, loosening soil and rocks along vulnerable mountain routes.

According to local media, the bus was carrying 32 people from Da Lat to Nha Trang when it reached the Khanh Le Pass — a stretch known for steep terrain and sharp curves. As the vehicle made its way through the pass, a massive landslide suddenly struck, burying part of the bus under mud, rocks, and debris.

Nineteen passengers were injured in the crash, many requiring immediate medical attention. Rescue teams reached the scene quickly, but difficult terrain and unstable ground slowed their efforts. Officials reported that two passengers were still trapped inside the partially buried vehicle as emergency workers continued digging through thick layers of soil and large boulders to reach them.

Images from the scene showed the road completely covered by earth and huge slabs of rock, making it nearly impossible for vehicles or rescue equipment to pass. Authorities are working to clear the route while continuing search and rescue operations.

In nearby Danang, three other individuals remained missing following a separate landslide that struck the area on Friday. Heavy rainfall across central Vietnam has raised concerns about further landslides and flooding, with officials urging residents to remain alert and avoid traveling through high-risk mountainous zones.

The government has deployed additional rescue teams and is monitoring weather forecasts closely as more rain is expected in the coming days. This series of landslides has underscored the vulnerability of the region to extreme weather, especially during periods of prolonged rainfall.
