Nishant Kumar Set to Enter Bihar Cabinet After Initial Reluctance
Patna, May 7, 2026
Nishant Kumar, son of former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and a Janata Dal (United) leader, is now reportedly set to become a minister in the upcoming cabinet expansion led by the Samrat Choudhary government. According to party sources, Nishant was earlier not willing to take up the post of Deputy Chief Minister, but has now agreed to accept a ministerial role.
He had earlier stepped back when discussions around making him Deputy CM gained momentum, choosing to stay away from the responsibility at that time.
Sources suggest that several JD(U) leaders have been pushing for Nishant Kumar’s inclusion in the cabinet, viewing him as a future face of the party. His name was also proposed during discussions ahead of the cabinet reshuffle.
Senior leaders including Sanjay Jha and Lalan Singh are believed to have supported the proposal, and the final list was submitted to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, which included Nishant’s name.
Reports indicate that Nishant Kumar was initially hesitant about even taking up the Deputy CM position. However, shifting political dynamics and internal consensus within the party appear to have influenced his decision to now accept a ministerial role. His earlier cautious approach reflected a measured entry into active politics.
Nishant Kumar’s likely induction into the Bihar cabinet signals a carefully managed political transition within JD(U), with the party gradually positioning him for a larger role in the future. His entry is seen as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the party’s leadership structure while maintaining continuity in the state’s political framework.
