Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday handed over approvals to companies under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) in New Delhi, marking a major step in strengthening India’s electronics ecosystem. A total of 29 applications have been cleared, involving investments of over ₹7,100 crore. The approved projects are expected to generate employment for more than 14,200 people and produce output worth over ₹84,500 crore.

Addressing the media, Vaishnaw stated that the total number of approved projects under the ECMS programme has now reached 75, with cumulative investments of around ₹61,000 crore. He added that 28 of these projects have already moved into the construction phase. According to the Minister, the overall initiative is expected to create nearly 65,000 direct jobs, highlighting its growing impact on employment generation in the country.

Calling the development a significant milestone, Vaishnaw noted that the approvals include India’s first project focused on rare-earth permanent magnets, an important component in advanced electronics and clean energy technologies. He emphasized that India’s electronics manufacturing sector has evolved in a comprehensive manner, progressing from finished products to modules, sub-modules, and now core components, indicating deeper industrial capability.

The ECMS scheme aims to build a strong domestic component ecosystem by attracting both global and local investments. It focuses on increasing domestic value addition, strengthening manufacturing capacity, and integrating Indian companies into global value chains. The initiative reflects the government’s broader vision to position India as a key hub in the global electronics manufacturing landscape.
