India and Russia Review Strategic Ties in New Delhi, Reaffirm Commitment to Deepening Partnership

New Delhi | 30 March 2026

India and Russia on Monday held Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi, reviewing the full scope of their longstanding Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. The meeting was co-chaired by India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko. Both sides discussed a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues, underlining the continued importance of their diplomatic engagement.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the consultations provided an opportunity to review ongoing cooperation and exchange perspectives on developments of mutual interest. The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties across sectors, reflecting the depth and resilience of their partnership built over decades.

The discussions come amid a series of recent high-level engagements between the two nations. Earlier this month, India and Russia conducted the 7th UN Consultations in New Delhi, focusing on matters related to the United Nations Security Council, including counter-terrorism, peacekeeping operations and long-pending reforms. Additionally, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on March 11, where both leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation and shared their views on the situation in West Asia.

These developments follow the recent state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India in December, during which he held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit marked 25 years of the India-Russia Strategic Partnership. During the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit held alongside the visit, both countries outlined future priorities, focusing on key areas such as energy, nuclear power, trade, defence and technology, signaling a continued push toward expanding cooperation.
