Selective Targeting of India Is Unfair’: Jaishankar Speaks Out on Ukraine Conflict

New Delhi | January 19, 2026

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on Monday said that India is being unfairly singled out on global issues, especially in relation to the Ukraine conflict, and made it clear that such selective treatment is neither right nor justified. He made these remarks during a meeting with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in New Delhi.

Speaking on the changing global situation, Jaishankar said the world is going through a phase of deep uncertainty and transition, and in such times, all countries must be treated equally. Referring to criticism of India’s stand on Ukraine, he said India has always been transparent and consistent in sharing its views. Quoting his past interactions in New York and Paris, Jaishankar said blaming or selectively targeting India does not make sense and ignores the country’s balanced approach based on dialogue and diplomacy.

The meeting took place amid what Jaishankar described as global “churn”. He said that although India and Poland are geographically distant, both nations are facing challenges and opportunities created by global changes. He stressed the need for regular dialogue and closer cooperation. The minister also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Poland in August 2024, which elevated bilateral relations to a strategic partnership. He said both sides would review the Action Plan 2024–28 to strengthen ties in trade, defence, technology and innovation.

Jaishankar also delivered a strong message on terrorism, urging Poland to follow a policy of zero tolerance. He warned against any support to terrorist networks operating in India’s neighbourhood and highlighted that cross-border terrorism continues to be a serious concern for India. He added that Poland, being familiar with the region, understands these challenges well.

The remarks also reflected India’s growing engagement with Europe, as Jaishankar noted that stronger India-Europe ties can bring stability to the global economy and politics during uncertain times. India has repeatedly maintained that lasting solutions to conflicts like Ukraine can only come through dialogue and diplomacy, not war—a position it has consistently raised at international platforms, including the United Nations.

‘Selective Targeting of India Is Unfair’: Jaishankar Speaks Out on Ukraine Conflict

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on Monday said that India is being unfairly targeted on global matters, especially over its stand on the Ukraine conflict. Speaking during talks with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in New Delhi, he made it clear that selective criticism of India is wrong and cannot be justified.

Jaishankar said the world is passing through a time of major change and uncertainty, and in such a situation, all countries should be treated equally. He pointed out that India has always shared its views on Ukraine openly and responsibly. He added that blaming India or singling it out ignores the balanced and honest position New Delhi has taken on the issue.

The minister also spoke about strengthening ties with Poland, recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Poland in August 2024, which raised the relationship to a strategic partnership. He said both sides will review the Action Plan 2024–28 to deepen cooperation in areas like trade, defence, technology and innovation during these changing global times.

Jaishankar also urged Poland to follow a strict zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism, warning against any support to terror networks in India’s neighbourhood. His remarks came as part of India’s wider engagement with Europe, where New Delhi continues to push for dialogue and diplomacy as the only way forward in global conflicts.
