Two Militants Held in Manipur’s Bishnupur, Security Forces Step Up Operations

Security forces arrested two militants linked to banned insurgent groups in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, police confirmed on Sunday. The arrests were made as part of ongoing operations aimed at maintaining law and order in sensitive areas of the state.
According to police, an active member of the outlawed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was arrested from his residence at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou on Saturday, January 17. On the same day, another militant belonging to the proscribed PREPAK (Pro) outfit was apprehended from the Chairel Ahallup area of Bishnupur district.
A senior police officer said security forces are continuing intensive search operations and area domination exercises in fringe and vulnerable regions across multiple districts to prevent militant activities and ensure public safety.
Meanwhile, in a parallel action against illegal activities, security personnel destroyed around 306 acres of illicit poppy cultivation during a week-long drive from January 12 to January 17. The operation was carried out at various locations under the Saikul police station limits in Kangpokpi district as part of efforts to curb illegal poppy cultivation in the area.

Security agencies in Manipur have arrested two militants linked to banned insurgent groups during separate operations in Bishnupur district. The arrests were made on Saturday as part of ongoing efforts to curb extremist activities and restore normalcy in sensitive areas of the state.
Police said one of the arrested persons is an active member of the banned People’s Liberation Army, who was picked up from his home in Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou. In another operation, a cadre of the outlawed PREPAK (Pro) group was arrested from the Chairel Ahallup area of the same district.
Officials stated that security forces are continuing search and area domination operations across fringe and vulnerable locations in different districts. These steps are being taken to prevent any fresh militant activity and to strengthen security on the ground.
In a related development, security personnel also destroyed large tracts of illegal poppy cultivation. Around 306 acres of illicit poppy fields were cleared during a week-long drive conducted between January 12 and January 17 under the Saikul police station area in Kangpokpi district.
