Third Victim’s Body Recovered from Pond in Ghazipur Triple Murder Case, Probe Gains Momentum
Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh), December 30, 2025
Police on Tuesday recovered the body of the third youth killed in a brutal triple murder case in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh, bringing a major development in a crime that had shocked the region last week. The body was found in a pond in Gahmar village, days after the first two victims were recovered from the same water body.
The three youths were allegedly hacked to death on December 24 following a violent dispute between young men belonging to two settlements in the village. Police said the killings were linked to an old rivalry that had been simmering for months. After the attack, the bodies were thrown into a pond in an attempt to hide the crime.
Superintendent of Police Iraj Raja confirmed that the third body, identified as Ankit Singh, was recovered after the water level in the pond gradually dropped over several days. He said the body had been sent for post-mortem examination to determine further details related to the cause and time of death.
According to police officials involved in the search operation, Ankit’s body was found buried under thick sludge at the bottom of the pond. The search had been challenging due to the size of the pond and the continuous inflow of drainage water from the village, which kept the water level high for several days after the incident.
Local residents and eyewitnesses said that the body was swollen but not mutilated. One villager noted that the intense winter cold may have slowed down decomposition and prevented fish from damaging the body. The recovery brought some relief to the family members, who had been anxiously waiting since the day the crime came to light.
Earlier, the bodies of the other two victims, identified as Vicky Singh and Saurabh Singh, were recovered from the pond, and post-mortem examinations were conducted. With the recovery of the third body, police said the investigation has moved forward significantly.
SP Raja said a case had been registered against 12 people in connection with the triple murder. So far, two men and one woman have been arrested, while three to four other suspects are currently being questioned. He added that more arrests are likely as investigators continue to gather evidence and question those linked to the case.
Police investigations revealed that the roots of the crime lie in a long-standing rivalry between youths of the two settlements in Gahmar village. Tensions between the groups had reportedly escalated after a clash during the Dussehra festival in October. That incident allegedly deepened hostilities and eventually led to the deadly attack last week.
According to officials, the three youths were attacked with sharp-edged weapons such as axes and choppers. After killing them, the accused allegedly dumped the bodies into the pond to destroy evidence and avoid detection. The crime sparked protests by villagers and led to heightened tension in the area, prompting increased police presence to maintain law and order.
Social worker Ishwar Singh, a resident of Gahmar, described the incident as deeply tragic and disturbing. He said the violence reflected a worrying trend among local youths and stressed the need for families and the community to guide young people away from conflict and crime. He also pointed out that the pond, which spreads across nearly six bighas, remains filled most of the year, making recovery operations extremely difficult.
Police said security has been tightened in the village to prevent any further unrest. Authorities are also keeping a close watch on both groups involved in the rivalry to ensure peace is maintained.
As the investigation continues, police have assured the families of the victims that all those responsible will be brought to justice. The recovery of the third body marks an important step in the case, but the tragedy has left the village shaken, with residents calling for strict action and long-term measures to prevent such violence in the future.
