Fog-Related Chain Collision on Delhi–Sonipat Road Leaves Several Injured Near Bahalgarh
Bahalgarh (Haryana), December 30, 2025
A series of collisions involving multiple cars was reported on the Delhi–Sonipat road near Bahalgarh in Haryana on Monday, as dense fog and poor visibility created dangerous driving conditions during the day. At least one to two people were reported injured in the incident, according to eyewitness accounts and initial police information.
The accident took place amid thick fog that sharply reduced visibility on the busy stretch of the highway. Eyewitnesses said the first collision occurred when one car rammed into another due to the driver’s inability to see clearly ahead. The impact left one of the vehicles badly damaged and stationary on the road. Shortly after, a third car, unable to spot the stopped vehicle in time, crashed into it from behind, resulting in a chain collision involving three cars.
According to people present at the scene, one of the vehicles involved in the initial crash reportedly left the spot before police arrived. The remaining damaged vehicles were seen on the road as authorities began their investigation. Visuals from the site showed cars with visible damage, while police personnel managed traffic and assessed the situation.
An eyewitness told news agency ANI that the sequence of events unfolded within a short span of time. “First, one car hit another car. Then one of the cars drove away, and the other remained damaged and stationary on the road. After some time, another car came and hit the damaged car from behind,” the eyewitness said. Another witness confirmed that one of the vehicles involved in the first collision had already left the scene and added that one or two people were injured in the accident.
Police officials reached the spot soon after receiving information and began inquiries to determine the exact cause of the crash. Traffic movement on the Delhi–Sonipat road was briefly affected as damaged vehicles were removed and the area was cleared to prevent further accidents. The injured were reportedly given medical attention, though their condition was not immediately known.
The incident comes amid a series of fog-related accidents reported across Delhi and the National Capital Region over the past few days. Dense fog and low visibility have made driving conditions risky, especially during early morning and late evening hours. Drivers have been struggling to judge distances, spot stationary vehicles, and react in time on high-speed corridors.
Earlier on Monday, similar accidents were reported on the Delhi–Mathura National Highway in Faridabad. In one such case, a speeding Hyundai Verna lost control, overturned multiple times, and crashed into the railing near Sector 28 Metro Station. That accident also took place under foggy conditions, highlighting the growing risk posed by reduced visibility on highways in the region.
The India Meteorological Department had earlier issued a warning for dense fog across Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, and Punjab on December 30. The weather office reported moderate fog conditions with visibility dropping to around 300 metres near Haryana’s Ambala at 7:30 am. Delhi was placed on a red alert for dense fog, with visibility levels recorded as very low in several areas of the city.
Authorities have repeatedly advised motorists to drive cautiously during foggy conditions, maintain safe distances, use fog lights where available, and avoid high speeds. Traffic police have also urged drivers to remain alert, especially on highways where stationary or slow-moving vehicles can be difficult to spot.
With winter fog continuing to affect large parts of north India, officials have warned that such accidents may increase if precautions are not followed. Monday’s collision near Bahalgarh serves as another reminder of the dangers posed by poor visibility and the need for extra care on the roads during the ongoing fog spell.
Fog-Related Chain Collision on Delhi–Sonipat Road Leaves Several Injured Near Bahalgarh
Dense fog once again disrupted road safety in north India as multiple vehicles collided on the Delhi–Sonipat road near Bahalgarh in Haryana on Monday. The accident happened due to very low visibility, making it difficult for drivers to judge distance and spot vehicles ahead in time. According to eyewitnesses, at least three cars were involved in the chain collision, and one or two people were reportedly injured.
The incident began when one car rammed into another because the driver could not see clearly through the thick fog. The impact left one vehicle badly damaged and stationary on the road. A short while later, a third car, moving on the same stretch, failed to notice the damaged vehicle and crashed into it from behind. Eyewitnesses also said that one of the vehicles involved in the initial collision left the spot before the police arrived.
Visuals from the site showed damaged cars on the highway as police personnel reached the area and began their investigation. Traffic movement was briefly affected while authorities cleared the road and ensured no further accidents occurred. The injured were given medical help, though their condition was not immediately known.
This accident is part of a worrying pattern seen over the past few days, with several fog-related crashes reported across Delhi and the National Capital Region. Reduced visibility during winter mornings and evenings has made driving risky, especially on busy highways and high-speed corridors.
Earlier, dense fog also led to serious accidents on the Delhi–Mathura National Highway in Faridabad, where a speeding car lost control and overturned near a metro station. The India Meteorological Department had already issued a warning for dense fog across Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, and Chandigarh. Delhi remains on red alert, with visibility dropping sharply in many areas.
Authorities have urged drivers to stay alert, drive slowly, and maintain safe distance during foggy conditions to avoid such accidents.
