Yash Raj Films is bringing another crime thriller to streaming with Akka, a period drama led by Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte. Scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 30, 2026, the series builds its story around a powerful matriarchal family whose carefully maintained order is threatened by revenge, distrust and a growing conflict between two sisters.

Set in the 1980s in the fictional city of Pernuru, Akka presents a world where women hold supreme authority within the family. The sisters initially stand united within this power structure, but their relationship begins to fracture after an unexpected threat emerges. What follows is a struggle marked by resentment, violence and challenges to the bond that once held them together. Production on the series began in November 2023.

Driving the conflict is a mysterious figure who enters their lives carrying deep hatred and a desire for revenge against the Akkas. Rather than confronting the sisters directly, she begins exploiting their vulnerabilities and creating mistrust between them. Her actions gradually intensify existing tensions, setting the stage for a fierce rivalry between the two.

The series also marks Keerthy Suresh’s official OTT debut, with Radhika Apte joining her in a prominent role. Suresh was previously seen in Dorothy (2026) and Baby John (2024), among several South Indian projects, while Apte most recently appeared in Lust Stories 3. Dharmaraj Shetty, who has written Akka, makes his directorial debut with the project. Tanvi Azmi, Aeklavya Tomer and Nisha Vishwakarma are also part of the cast.

With Akka, Yash Raj Films and Netflix extend their partnership for a third project after The Railway Men (2023) and Mandala Murders (2025). While all three projects operate within the thriller space, Akka shifts the focus to a female-led power structure and a family divided from within, combining the atmosphere of a period drama with a story driven by revenge and shifting loyalties.
