India’s fourth day at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya brought a mix of historic achievements and missed opportunities, with Mirabai Chanu emerging as the biggest highlight. The weightlifting star secured silver in the women’s 49kg final, earning her first-ever Asian Games medal and adding another major milestone to her decorated career.

Chanu’s silver was followed by a landmark moment in soft tennis, where Jay Meena won bronze to give India its first-ever Asian Games medal in the sport. Meena’s semifinal ended prematurely after an injury prevented him from continuing, bringing his campaign for a place in the final to an early close but still securing a historic podium finish for India.

India also added another shooting medal in the men’s skeet team event. Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Mairaj Khan and Bhavtegh Singh Gill combined to win bronze, while Naruka also advanced to the individual final. Their medal came after India’s women’s skeet trio of Maheshwari Chauhan, Raiza Dhillon and Parinaaz Dhaliwal had earlier secured bronze in the event.

The Indian men’s kabaddi team further strengthened the day’s medal prospects by defeating Bangladesh in their Group A match and progressing to the semifinals, thereby assuring India of another medal. However, the day also brought disappointment in the shooting arena, where double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker could not secure a podium finish in the 10m air pistol individual final.

From Chanu’s historic silver to India’s breakthrough in soft tennis and medals in shooting, Day 4 delivered several significant moments for the Indian contingent. With kabaddi also assured of a medal, India’s campaign continued to gather momentum despite some high-profile misses on the way.
