India Names Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth as Next Army Chief

New Delhi, June 13, 2026

India’s military leadership is set for an important transition as Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth has been appointed as the next Chief of Army Staff. The move reflects continuity in command as the Indian Army continues to focus on operational readiness and future-oriented transformation.

Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth will take charge on June 30, succeeding General Upendra Dwivedi following his retirement. Before this appointment, he served in several senior leadership roles and gained extensive experience across operational and strategic responsibilities.

Commissioned into the Armoured Corps in 1986 after graduating from the National Defence Academy, Lt Gen Seth has held multiple significant positions during his career. His experience in command and military planning made him one of the Army’s senior-most leaders.

As India prepares for a new phase of military leadership, the transition is expected to strengthen continuity while supporting the Army’s broader vision for modernization and long-term preparedness.
