Battle Over Jaipur Polo Ground Intensifies as Centre Takes Possession
New Delhi, June 13, 2026
A fresh chapter unfolded in Delhi’s ongoing land dispute as authorities moved to take possession of the Jaipur Polo Ground, bringing renewed attention to questions surrounding public land use, heritage spaces, and administrative control in the capital.
Officials from the Land & Development Office entered the Jaipur Polo Ground premises on Saturday and initiated possession proceedings following an eviction order issued earlier. The government had stated that the land was required for a “larger public purpose and benefit”, though no further details regarding the proposed use were publicly specified. The move came after a court declined to halt execution of the order.
The Indian Polo Association opposed the action and maintained that the process was wrongful, arbitrary and not in accordance with the law. The association said it would continue to pursue legal remedies while challenging the decision. The matter remains under judicial consideration, with further proceedings expected in the coming days.
The development marks another significant moment in Delhi’s evolving land management debate, where administrative priorities and institutional interests continue to intersect. As legal proceedings continue, the future of one of the capital’s well-known sporting spaces remains under close watch.
