A dispute over the quality of road construction in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar escalated into a confrontation after PWD Minister Parvesh Verma was seen on camera apparently slapping a man who was filming the exchange. What began with questions surrounding recently completed roadwork soon drew wider attention after footage of the incident surfaced online.

The confrontation unfolded during an inspection where AAP MLA Jarnail Singh raised questions about the condition and quality of the roadwork. Singh challenged the standard of construction while Verma was present at the site, leading to a heated exchange between the two leaders.

As the argument continued, a man identified in reports as Sahib Singh was recording the scene on his mobile phone. The circulating footage appears to show Verma approaching him and reaching towards the phone before striking him. People present at the spot subsequently intervened as tensions rose.

Sahib Singh later alleged that he was livestreaming the confrontation when Verma attempted to stop the recording, took his phone and slapped him. He also said that he approached the police with a complaint following the incident. AAP has linked the episode to questions being raised over the roadwork and alleged irregularities, though allegations concerning corruption in the construction have not been independently established by the video itself.

The confrontation has now widened a dispute that initially centred on road quality. Alongside questions surrounding the construction work, the footage of the minister’s interaction with the person recording the scene has emerged as a separate controversy, bringing the incident under increased public and political scrutiny.
