India-Russia Talks Deepen Strategic Coordination

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held wide-ranging talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Tuesday, underlining the continued importance of India-Russia engagement amid growing regional and global challenges. The discussions covered bilateral cooperation, sensitive regional developments, international concerns and coordination on multilateral platforms.
According to Russia’s state news agency TASS, the two foreign ministers discussed key issues on the international agenda and exchanged views on the situations in Afghanistan, Iran and Ukraine. Both sides also focused on maintaining coordination on these major regional and global developments.
India and Russia reaffirmed their commitment to close cooperation within the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), BRICS and the G20. The two ministers also agreed to further strengthen dialogue built on mutual trust at all levels. Jaishankar later shared details of the meeting on social media platform X, saying that wide-ranging discussions were held on bilateral cooperation, sensitive regional issues, global challenges and multilateral matters.
During his two-day visit to Russia, Jaishankar also met Russian President Vladimir Putin and discussed ways to strengthen economic ties between the two countries, with particular focus on trade, energy, fertilisers and nuclear cooperation. He also co-chaired a meeting of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission (IRIGC) with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, where trade, economic, scientific, technological and cultural cooperation were reviewed.
The series of high-level engagements reflects ongoing efforts by India and Russia to deepen their economic and strategic partnership while maintaining close coordination on key bilateral and global issues. Through continued dialogue and cooperation, both countries are working to further strengthen their longstanding relationship across multiple sectors.
