India’s growing economic strength and expanding investment opportunities took centre stage during Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s visit to Singapore. Through a series of meetings with leading global businesses, investment institutions and industry representatives, Goyal highlighted India’s investment-friendly reforms, strong economic fundamentals and the wide range of opportunities emerging across key sectors. The engagements focused on deepening India-Singapore economic ties and encouraging greater global participation in India’s growth story.
Goyal met Dilhan Chandrasekera, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore-based investment firm Temasek Holdings. The discussions focused on further strengthening investment ties between India and Temasek and expanding the company’s participation in India’s development journey. Goyal said that India’s strong economic foundation, reforms aimed at encouraging investment and rapidly expanding opportunities across sectors offer significant potential for long-term partnerships with global investors. He also met a delegation led by Singapore Business Federation President Mark Lee, where both sides discussed ways to deepen cooperation between the business communities of India and Singapore and expand trade and investment relations. Goyal said that the business communities of both countries can play an important role in strengthening the economic partnership, creating new opportunities and increasing investment.
During the visit, the minister also held meetings with Fortis Healthcare Chairman Leo Puri and IHH Healthcare Group CEO Dr Prem Nair. Discussions covered opportunities to expand cooperation in healthcare services, hospital management, medical technology and investment between India and Singapore. Goyal said India’s rapidly developing healthcare sector offers major opportunities for global investors and institutions, with the expansion of health infrastructure and rising demand making the sector increasingly attractive for investment. He also met Brian Shaptrine, Managing Director of Turner & Townsend Asia-Pacific, to discuss India’s rapidly expanding infrastructure sector and possibilities for greater global investment. Goyal said India’s investment-led growth strategy is creating new opportunities in infrastructure and related sectors, including transport, urban development, industrial corridors and logistics.
Earlier, Goyal participated in the India-Singapore Business Forum, where he outlined India’s economic progress, investment opportunities and government measures aimed at improving the ease of doing business. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has taken several important steps to create a more investor-friendly business environment. These efforts are helping India strengthen its position as a significant investment and manufacturing destination for global companies. The meetings in Singapore further underscored India’s focus on attracting long-term investment and building stronger international economic partnerships.
