Hill Rescue Attempt Ends in Tragedy, Three Family Members Dead
New Delhi, August 21, 2026
A tense three-hour attempt to save an 18-year-old man who was threatening to jump from a hill in Maharashtra ended in a devastating tragedy on Friday, when he, his father and his mother all fell to their deaths. The incident unfolded at Khavda Hill in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, despite repeated efforts by family members, villagers and police officials to bring the teenager to safety.
The ordeal began at around 10 am when the teenager, a resident of the Devlai area, went to the edge of the hill and threatened to take his own life. "I am going to jump," he repeatedly told his parents. For nearly three hours, his mother and villagers tried to convince him to step away from the edge, asking him to think about his future and his parents. However, he remained determined to take his own life. The entire episode was recorded by tourists and local residents present at the site.
During the final 15-20 minutes, the teenager's father, who had initially been pleading with him from below, climbed up the hill to intervene directly. As his son continued moving close to the edge, the father tried to persuade him to move to a safer spot. At around 1 pm, he attempted to grab his son, but both lost their balance and fell from the hill. Moments later, the panic-stricken mother also fell. Police officials at the scene had also tried to persuade the teenager to move away from the edge, but their efforts did not succeed.
Eyewitness Sanjay Jadhav said the parents and others made repeated efforts to save the teenager. "The parents and others tried very hard to make him understand, but he didn't listen and kept standing on the edge of the hill. Police officials were also there," Jadhav said. "The mother kept pleading with him not to jump," he said. What began as a desperate effort by a family to prevent a tragedy ultimately ended in the loss of all three family members, leaving behind a deeply heartbreaking scene at Khavda Hill.
