President Murmu’s Europe Tour to Strengthen India’s Strategic Partnerships
New Delhi, July 17, 2026
India is set to deepen its engagement with Eastern Europe as President Droupadi Murmu embarks on a State visit to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania from July 19 to 25. The high-level diplomatic tour underscores New Delhi’s focus on expanding bilateral cooperation, enhancing economic partnerships and reinforcing long-term ties with key countries in the region.
The visit will begin in Moldova on July 20 at the invitation of President Maia Sandu, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian President to the country. President Murmu will hold delegation-level talks with President Sandu, meet Parliament President Igor Grosu, interact with the Moldova-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, address the India-Moldova Business Forum and meet members of the Indian community. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India and Moldova share warm and friendly relations, with both nations looking to expand cooperation in agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, information technology and education.
From July 21 to 22, President Murmu will travel to North Macedonia at the invitation of President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, another first by an Indian President. She is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with the country's leadership, including Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and the President of the Assembly, besides addressing the Assembly of North Macedonia and the India-North Macedonia Business Forum. The final leg of the visit will take her to Romania from July 23 to 25, marking the first visit by an Indian President to the country in more than three decades. During the visit, she will meet President Nicușor Dan, interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, senior parliamentary leaders, members of the Romania-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, address the India-Romania Business Forum and interact with the Indian community.
According to the MEA, the three-nation tour reflects the importance India attaches to strengthening bilateral relations with Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania while broadening its engagement with the wider Eastern European region. The ministry also noted that Romania remains an important partner within the European Union, and the conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is expected to further strengthen economic cooperation in the years ahead.
