UP’s Big Push to Revive Gomti River Source and Drive Regional Development

New Delhi, June 29, 2026

Focusing on environmental restoration and long-term regional growth, the Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled a plan to develop the origin point of the Gomti River into a prominent spiritual and tourism destination. The initiative reflects an effort to preserve an important natural and cultural landmark while creating fresh opportunities for economic activity in surrounding areas.

The project will focus on the source region of the Gomti in Madhotanda, Pilibhit district, where development and conservation work are proposed together. Through planned infrastructure improvements and restoration measures, the government aims to improve the condition and visibility of the site while strengthening its historical and ecological significance.

Authorities believe the initiative could bring benefits beyond conservation by increasing tourism potential, encouraging local employment, and supporting growth in nearby districts. The project is also expected to create better public engagement with river preservation and sustainable development.

By connecting ecological protection with economic planning, the initiative seeks to give renewed identity and value to one of Uttar Pradesh’s important rivers. The development of the Gomti’s origin is being seen as a step toward balancing heritage conservation with future regional progress.
