PM Modi Uses Cultural Diplomacy to Highlight India’s Heritage Abroad

New Delhi, May 21, 2026

Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned his five-nation diplomatic tour into a celebration of India’s cultural identity by presenting world leaders with handcrafted gifts representing the country’s rich traditions and regional artistry. The carefully selected items reflected India’s diverse heritage and showcased how cultural diplomacy continues to play an important role in strengthening global ties.

Among the notable gifts were a hand-etched silver lion placed on a Fuchsite stone base for Argentina’s President Javier Milei and a Madhubani painting dedicated to the Sun for Vice President Victoria Villarruel. During his visit to Trinidad and Tobago, PM Modi presented Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar with a silver replica of the Ayodhya Ram Temple along with a Kalash carrying sacred Sarayu river water, symbolising India’s spiritual and cultural roots.

Several leaders also received traditional Indian creations including Muga silk stoles, Shantiniketan bags, Bidriware art pieces, Kalamkari paintings, and premium Indian mangoes. Each gift represented the craftsmanship of different Indian states and highlighted the work of local artisans on an international stage.

Through these symbolic exchanges, India projected its civilisational legacy alongside its diplomatic outreach. The tour demonstrated how traditional art, spirituality, and regional craftsmanship can become powerful tools of connection, helping India strengthen relations while proudly presenting its cultural heritage to the world.
