Nation Remembers Rajiv Gandhi on Death Anniversary

Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was remembered across the country on his death anniversary, with leaders from different political parties paying tribute to his contribution to India’s political and technological growth. The occasion reflected the continued recognition of his role in shaping modern India and his lasting influence on national politics.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Rajiv Gandhi and shared a message saying, “Tributes to former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji on his death anniversary.” Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, also visited Veer Bhumi in New Delhi to offer floral tributes and remember his legacy.


Rajiv Gandhi became India’s youngest Prime Minister in 1984 at the age of 40 following the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. During his tenure, he was associated with initiatives focused on modernization, technology, and the expansion of the telecommunications sector, which played an important role in India’s changing development landscape.


Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on May 21, 1991, during an election campaign in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. Every year, leaders and citizens remember his contribution to the nation and pay tribute to his political journey and vision for India’s future.
