Mega Rail Boost: ₹89,530 Crore Projects Approved in India

New Delhi, May 2, 2026

In a significant step toward strengthening India’s transport infrastructure, railway projects worth ₹89,530 crore have been approved. The decision underlines a continued focus on expanding capacity, improving efficiency, and upgrading the national rail network to meet growing demand.

The approved projects aim to enhance rail connectivity by adding new lines, expanding existing routes, and introducing multi-tracking in key corridors. These measures are expected to ease congestion, improve train movement, and strengthen links between important regions and economic centres.

Along with capacity expansion, the projects are designed to improve operational efficiency, safety, and overall service reliability. The upgrades are also aligned with broader efforts to modernise logistics and ensure smoother passenger and freight transport across the country.

This large-scale investment is expected to generate employment, reduce transportation costs, and support regional development. The initiative marks a strong step toward building a faster, more efficient, and future-ready railway system in India.
