Modi Holds Talks With Gulf Leaders Amid Rising Middle East Tensions, Focuses on Safety of Indians

New Delhi | 3 March 2026

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken with several leaders from the Middle East as tensions rise in the region due to the ongoing United States–Iran conflict. The discussions focused on regional stability and the safety of Indian nationals living in Gulf countries.

On Tuesday, the Prime Minister held telephone conversations with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah of Kuwait, and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar. These calls came a day after he spoke with leaders of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Jordan.

During his talks with the leaders of Oman and Kuwait, the Prime Minister expressed serious concern over recent attacks in Gulf countries and discussed steps to ensure the security of the Indian community there. In his conversation with the Amir of Qatar, he strongly condemned the attacks on Doha amid ongoing strikes in the region.

The outreach comes as the conflict has widened beyond Iran, leading to airspace disruptions and raising fears over oil supplies and energy infrastructure across the Gulf. India has a large population of workers and professionals in the region, making their safety a top priority.

Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs expressed grave concern over the fast-deteriorating situation in Iran and the Gulf. The ministry stated that the well-being of nearly one crore Indian nationals living in the Middle East remains a major concern for the government.

On Monday, Prime Minister Modi also spoke with Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia and Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He stressed that the earliest restoration of peace and stability in the region is extremely important and thanked Saudi Arabia for taking care of the Indian community during the current crisis.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reached out to the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, including Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed. He also held talks with Seyed Abbas Araghchi of Iran and Gideon Sa'ar of Israel.

Reports suggest that more than 700 people have lost their lives in Iran so far, while strikes and counter-strikes continue across parts of the Gulf and Israel. India has reiterated its stand against violence and continues to call for dialogue, restraint, and peace in the region.
