Italy Faces New Demographic Low as Births Set to Hit Record Decline in 2025
India Sees 67 Million Daily Visits to Fuel Stations Amid Expanding Energy Demand
New Delhi, October 21, 2025
India’s energy sector continues to witness remarkable growth, with nearly 67 million citizens visiting fuel stations daily, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Tuesday. Speaking on the scale of India’s rising energy demand, Puri highlighted that the country now consumes approximately 5.5 million barrels of oil per day, reflecting its rapid economic expansion and increasing energy requirements.
India has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest economy with a GDP of $4.3 trillion, achieving a robust growth rate of 7.8 percent in the first quarter of FY25-26, Puri noted. The minister emphasized that this economic momentum is mirrored in India’s energy infrastructure, which is being strengthened to meet the growing needs of households, industries, and transport.
He shared that the country’s gas pipeline network, currently spanning 24,500 kilometers, is set to expand to 33,000 kilometers by 2030, ensuring wider access to natural gas for urban and rural areas alike. In addition, more than 10.60 crore households have been provided LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, while 1.55 crore homes are connected through piped natural gas (PNG), facilitating cleaner energy solutions for millions of families.
The CNG infrastructure in India is also expanding, with around 8,300 stations serving millions of vehicles every day. Puri underscored the government’s commitment to clean and sustainable energy, noting that 114 compressed biogas (CBG) plants are operational and projects in green hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) are being rapidly scaled up.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is pursuing a holistic energy strategy aimed at supporting the country’s development goals and achieving #ViksitBharat by 2047. Last week, Puri stated that 99 percent of India’s offshore areas have been opened for oil and gas exploration, while the country has diversified its crude import sources, expanding the basket from 27 countries to more than 40.
The minister highlighted that India’s energy journey rests on four key pillars: diversification of crude imports, innovation in energy technology, increased domestic oil and gas exploration, and a clean energy transition. The Green Hydrogen Mission and initiatives like the Ujjwala Yojana demonstrate India’s dual focus on sustainability and energy accessibility.
Puri’s statement reinforces India’s role as a major player in the global energy market while addressing domestic energy security. By scaling infrastructure, promoting cleaner fuels, and expanding exploration, India aims to meet its growing demand efficiently and sustainably. These developments also strengthen the nation’s capacity to provide affordable, reliable, and environmentally responsible energy solutions for households, industries, and transportation networks, marking a significant step in India’s journey toward a developed economy.
