CM Dhami Meets PM Modi, Seeks Central Support for Key Uttarakhand Projects Ahead of 2026 Nanda Raj Jat and 2027 Haridwar Kumbh
New Delhi/Dehradun, July 14: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday and discussed a range of strategic proposals aimed at accelerating the state’s development. Expressing gratitude for the consistent support extended by the Central Government, CM Dhami said that under the Prime Minister’s leadership, Uttarakhand is committed to playing a significant role in realizing the vision of a Developed India by 2047.
The Chief Minister praised the international recognition received by Prime Minister Modi, noting that 27 countries have conferred their highest civilian honors upon him — a matter of immense pride for all Indians. As a token of respect, he presented the Prime Minister with a replica of the Kartik Swami Temple, a coffee table book on the Adi Kailash Yatra, and traditional products from Uttarakhand such as ghee from Kanar (Dharachula), red rice from Purola, Basmati rice, black cumin (Kala Jeera), Gandhrayan and Jambu herbs, and local honey.
Major Infrastructure Proposals for Religious and Strategic Development
CM Dhami requested PM Modi to direct concerned ministries to support the infrastructural development of the Haridwar Ganga Corridor, Rishikesh Ganga Corridor, and the Sharda Corridor in Champawat on the lines of the Kedarnath and Badrinath redevelopment plans, with financing support through CSR funds.
He also sought Central Government directives for:
- Transforming Nepa Farm in Udham Singh Nagar into a semiconductor hub,
- Extending the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor to Haridwar,
- Including route construction provisions in the Tanakpur–Bageshwar and Rishikesh–Uttarkashi rail projects.
Request for Special Support for Nanda Raj Jat Yatra and Haridwar Kumbh
CM Dhami invited the Prime Minister to the Nanda Raj Jat Yatra scheduled for August 2026, highlighting the need for environmentally sustainable infrastructure to support the sacred Himalayan pilgrimage. He requested ₹400 crore in Central assistance for the event.
In preparation for the Haridwar Kumbh in 2027, the CM requested ₹3,500 crore for infrastructure works including bridge repairs, parking facilities, power supply, drinking water, sanitation, transportation, and pedestrian amenities for pilgrims. He also urged approval of a ₹1,015 crore DPR under the RDSS scheme for undergrounding HT/LT power lines and automation of the power system in Haridwar and Rishikesh.
Cultural Conservation and River Interlinking Projects
The Chief Minister sought support for restoring Chaurasi Kutiya, a heritage site near Rishikesh, to its original state, and urged the National Board for Wildlife to approve the project.
He also briefed the Prime Minister on the Pindar-Kosi river linking project, which aims to connect glacier-fed Pindar River to the rain-fed Kosi, Gagas, Gomti, and Garud rivers. This initiative could benefit over 2 lakh people across 625 villages and improve water supply for more than 1.25 lakh residents in towns such as Garud, Kausani, Dwarahat, Ranikhet, and Almora. He urged the project’s inclusion under a special national scheme.
Push for Hydropower Projects
CM Dhami also requested approval for five pending hydropower projects with a total capacity of 596 MW, in line with recommendations from a committee chaired by the Cabinet Secretary, Government of India.
Prime Minister Modi enquired about the Char Dham Yatra, Adi Kailash Yatra, Nanda Raj Jat Yatra, the 2027 Haridwar Kumbh, and the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Uttarakhand. He assured CM Dhami of full Central Government support for the state’s development initiatives.
