Guwahati, May 8, 2026

Political activity has intensified in Assam following the NDA’s strong victory in the assembly elections, with preparations underway for the formation of the new government. The focus is now on the BJP legislature party meeting scheduled for Sunday, where Himanta Biswa Sarma is expected to be chosen once again as the leader of the legislative party.

According to reports, the swearing-in ceremony of the new government is likely to take place on May 12 at the Veterinary College playground in Khanapara, Guwahati. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several chief ministers from NDA-ruled states are also expected to attend the event as preparations continue at the party level.

With the chief minister’s position almost finalized, discussions have now shifted towards the formation of the new cabinet. The party is reportedly considering regional and social representation while selecting ministers, and several fresh faces may also get an opportunity in the upcoming government.

The NDA secured 102 seats in the 126-member Assam Assembly, marking its third consecutive return to power in the state. The victory has further strengthened Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership, while attention now remains focused on the final cabinet decisions and the official formation of the new government.
