ISRO Begins Countdown for PSLV-C62 Mission, Set to Launch EOS-N1 on January 12

Mumbai | 11 January 2026

Mumbai Police have solved a six-month-old murder case from Kurla, uncovering a shocking story of friendship, financial fraud and gaming addiction. The victim, 26-year-old Rahul Kharvar, was allegedly murdered by his close friend Ankit Shahu (20) after a dispute over ₹30,000 withdrawn from Rahul’s Provident Fund account.

Police said Rahul had trusted Ankit with his PF withdrawal, believing him to be technically proficient. However, Ankit allegedly transferred the money into his own bank account and spent it on online gaming. When Rahul realised the money had been taken without permission and demanded it back, Ankit reportedly attempted to deceive him by showing a fake UPI transaction screenshot.

On July 24, 2025, Rahul went missing after leaving home in Kurla West. Investigations later revealed that Ankit had taken him to the banks of the Mithi River near the airport boundary wall. Taking advantage of the isolated spot, Ankit allegedly pushed Rahul into the river in an attempt to silence him and escape repayment.

Based on financial records, call detail logs and mobile tower locations, police arrested Ankit and booked him under sections related to murder, criminal breach of trust and destruction of evidence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the IT Act. Search operations are ongoing to trace Rahul’s body, while police say the case stands as a grim reminder of how addiction and greed can turn trust into tragedy.

Gaming Addiction Turns Deadly: ₹30,000 Dispute Leads to Murder in Mumbai, Case Solved After 6 Months

Mumbai Police have cracked a chilling murder case six months after a 26-year-old man went missing, revealing how a gaming addiction and a ₹30,000 financial dispute led to his death. The victim, Rahul Kharvar, was allegedly killed by his friend Ankit Shahu (20) in Kurla after confronting him over money siphoned from his Provident Fund account.

According to police, Rahul had trusted Ankit—who was more tech-savvy—to help withdraw PF money. Investigations revealed that Ankit transferred ₹30,000 into his own account and spent it on online gaming. When Rahul discovered the unauthorized withdrawal and demanded his money back, Ankit allegedly tried to mislead him by sharing a fake UPI payment screenshot.

On July 24, 2025, Ankit reportedly took Rahul to the banks of the Mithi River near the airport wall in Kurla. While Rahul was watching aircraft, Ankit pushed him into the river to evade repayment, police said. Rahul’s body is yet to be recovered, but strong technical and financial evidence linked Ankit to the crime.

Police have registered a case under murder, criminal breach of trust, destruction of evidence, and IT Act provisions. Officials said call records, bank transactions, and mobile tower data were crucial in solving the case, highlighting the dark consequences of unchecked gaming addiction and betrayal of trust.
