Alia Bhatt Recalls Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Grizzly Bear’ Childhood Lesson

New Delhi, September 17, 2026

Alia Bhatt recently shared a fond childhood memory involving her father, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, offering a glimpse into his dramatic and unconventional way of expressing affection. She recalled the incident while attending a special screening of Om Ka Hari, which stars her mother, Soni Razdan.

Remembering her school days, Alia said she was anxious about forgetting the spelling of “the” during a test when she was in Class 1. Her father decided to make the word memorable through his theatrical teaching style.

“My father is very theatrical and that sometimes makes for great memories. For example, when I was in 1st standard, I had a spelling test and I was worried I was, for some reason, going to forget the spelling of ‘the’. My father made it a point to build into my memory, so he did some overbearing gesture to teach me the spelling so I don’t forget it. But I remember him being this, like, grizzly bear, highly theatrical and highly entertaining.”

The memory reflects the distinctive bond Alia shares with her father, where even an ordinary school lesson became something she continued to remember years later.

Alia’s anecdote also resonates with the central theme of Om Ka Hari, which explores the complex relationship between a father and son. Directed by Harish Vyas, the film features Soni Razdan, Ayesha Kapur, Anshuman Jha and Raghubir Yadav and follows a father and son whose contrasting personalities, generational differences and expectations often bring them into conflict.

Om Ka Hari is set to arrive in theatres on September 18, 2026, bringing its exploration of family bonds and generational relationships to the screen.
