Delhi has achieved the target of establishing 100 Atal Canteens, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurating 25 new outlets on Sunday, coinciding with the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The expansion is aimed at making nutritious food available at an affordable price to workers and families in need across the national capital.

Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, BJP leader Manoj Tiwari and Delhi Minister Ashish Sood attended the event. Gupta said the commitment to establish 100 canteens, announced on December 25, 2025, had now been fulfilled. Naidu inaugurated the latest 25 canteens from Timarpur. Under the scheme, meals are available for ₹5 per plate, with around one lakh labourers and needy families expected to benefit each day.

“On the birth anniversary of the revered Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji, the resolve taken on 25 December 2025 to launch 100 Atal Canteens has been fulfilled today on his death anniversary. Honorable former Vice President Shri @MVenkaiahNaidu ji inaugurated 25 new Atal Canteens from Timarpur and dedicated them to serving the people of Delhi. From today, through these 100 Atal Canteens, nutritious meals will be available for just ₹5 to approximately 1 lakh laborers and needy families every day. Along with this, our government has fulfilled another promise made to the people of Delhi,” said Rekha Gupta in a post on X. In another post, she said, “…A promise made to Delhi is now a service dedicated to its people. These canteens will provide nutritious meals to nearly 1 lakh workers and families in need every day for just ₹5. It is a living tribute to Atal Ji’s vision of Antyodaya, carrying the spirit of service, dignity and nourishment to those who need it most,”

The Atal Canteen scheme was launched by the Delhi government on December 25, 2025, on Vajpayee’s birth anniversary. With the latest additions, the initiative now has 100 canteens across the capital, providing subsidised meals to people who need affordable food support. The completion of the network marks the fulfilment of the government's stated target and expands the reach of the ₹5 meal programme.
