The Prambanan Temple Compounds continue to reflect Indonesia’s deep-rooted cultural heritage, preserving the enduring legacy of the Ramayana through their remarkable architecture and artistic craftsmanship. Recognised as one of the country's most treasured historical landmarks, the temple complex remains a powerful symbol of classical Hindu culture in Southeast Asia.

According to UNESCO, which has recognised Prambanan as a World Heritage Site, the temple’s stone reliefs are adorned with carvings illustrating the Indonesian version of the Ramayana epic. UNESCO also describes the Prambanan Temple Compounds as a masterpiece of classical Siva art, representing one of the finest achievements of Indonesia’s historic cultural legacy and the wider region.

UNESCO further noted that restoration work has been underway since 1918, using both the original traditional interlocking stone technique and modern concrete reinforcement methods to strengthen and preserve the temple structure. These conservation efforts have helped protect the site's architectural and historical significance for future generations.

The Prambanan Temple Compounds were also designated as Indonesia’s National Cultural Property in 1998. Adding to the site's cultural appeal, the Ramayana Ballet is staged in an open-air theatre on the southern side of the temple during full moon evenings from May to October, offering visitors a unique experience that brings the ancient epic to life while celebrating Indonesia’s living cultural traditions.
