Namo Bharat’s Next Stop Could Be Uttarakhand

Lucknow,  June 18, 2026

A proposed expansion of the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor could mark a major step in improving regional connectivity between the National Capital Region and Uttarakhand. The move reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen faster and more efficient intercity transport while improving access to key destinations.

According to the proposal, the Namo Bharat corridor may be extended by around 150 kilometres from Modipuram in Meerut to Laxman Jhula in Rishikesh. If implemented, the route is expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and Rishikesh to nearly 2.5 to 3 hours, offering a faster alternative to current travel options.

Multiple Cities Expected to Benefit

The proposed extension is expected to improve connectivity across parts of western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, benefiting travellers moving through Meerut, Haridwar and Rishikesh. The corridor could support tourism, pilgrimage travel and smoother movement between major urban and religious centres.

The expansion remains at the proposal and survey stage, and further planning will determine the next steps. If approved and developed as planned, the project could reshape regional travel by creating a quicker and more connected transport network between Delhi and Uttarakhand.
