Congress Faces Setback as Meenakshi Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha Nomination Rejected
Bhopal, June 9, 2026
The Rajya Sabha election in Madhya Pradesh has taken a significant political turn after Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination was rejected during scrutiny. The development has reshaped the contest and dealt a major setback to the opposition party, which was hoping to remain competitive in the race for the Upper House seat.
Election officials rejected Natarajan’s nomination after objections were raised regarding information provided in her affidavit. It was alleged that details related to a pending criminal case were not disclosed. Following a review of the complaint and the response submitted, authorities concluded that the nomination did not meet the required norms and declared it invalid.
Reacting strongly to the decision, Congress leaders accused the authorities of acting unfairly and questioned the process behind the rejection. The party maintained that it would challenge the move through legal channels and continue its fight against what it described as an unjust action.
With no replacement candidate available after the nomination deadline, Congress has effectively been left out of the contest. The rejection has strengthened the position of the ruling BJP in the Rajya Sabha election, highlighting the high political stakes surrounding the electoral process in the state.
