Lucknow to Host Cultural Events on Ambedkar Jayanti

The Uttar Pradesh Culture Department is preparing to organise a series of cultural programmes in Lucknow on April 14 to commemorate the 135th birth anniversary of Dr B. R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and a leading voice for freedom, equality and fraternity. The events will feature music, theatre and special performances aimed at spreading Dr Ambedkar’s ideas and values among a wider audience.
According to Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh, major programmes will be organised at prominent venues including the Ambedkar Mahasabha, Ambedkar Memorial and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University. Through singing performances, theatrical presentations and cultural showcases, the events will highlight themes of social harmony, equality and human rights.
Several artists from different parts of the state will participate in the celebrations. At the Ambedkar Mahasabha, singers Ram Niwas Paswan and Ritesh Kumar from Lucknow will perform musical tributes. At the Ambedkar Memorial, artists including Poras Ram (Ghazipur), Dinesh Kumar (Lucknow), Tribhuvan Bharti (Mau), Shyamjeet Singh (Lakhimpur Kheri), Paras Nath Saroj (Pratapgarh), Archana Prajapati and Sanjay Yadav will present cultural performances.
The programme will also feature theatrical presentations addressing social issues, with Vipin Kumar from Lucknow and Yogendra Pal from Unnao performing with their theatre teams. Renowned artist Sachin Valmiki from Mumbai will deliver a special performance, expected to be one of the highlights of the event.
At Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University, a dedicated cultural programme will be organised to highlight Dr Ambedkar’s philosophy and contributions to social justice. Sanjoo Baghel, a well-known artist from Madhya Pradesh, will perform during the event, using cultural expression to convey themes of justice, equality and human rights.
Speaking about the initiative, Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said that Dr Ambedkar, born on April 14, 1891, in Mhow (Madhya Pradesh), was among the most visionary leaders in Indian history. He noted that Dr Ambedkar possessed several advanced academic degrees, had deep knowledge of multiple languages and subjects, and played a pivotal role in shaping the Constitution of independent India as its first Law Minister.
“Dr B. R. Ambedkar was not only the chief architect of the Constitution but also a pillar of social justice in modern India. The principles of freedom, equality and fraternity that he championed remain the foundation of our democracy. Through these cultural programmes, we aim to take his message and ideals to every section of society and inspire the creation of a more inclusive and just social order,” he said.
