Uttar Pradesh | 25 Feb 2026
With Holi around the corner, Uttar Pradesh has intensified its drive against adulterated food items to protect public health during the festive rush. The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) launched a statewide crackdown, seizing thousands of litres of edible oil and destroying large stocks of paneer, mawa and sweets found unfit for consumption. Officials said the action was necessary as demand for dairy products and sweets rises sharply before festivals.
In Hapur, the department carried out inspections at manufacturing and storage units and seized 32,500 litres of suspected adulterated edible oil. Authorities confirmed that samples have been sent for laboratory testing, and further steps will be taken based on the results.
Several other districts also saw strict action. In Gautam Buddha Nagar’s Tilpata area, officials destroyed 200 kg of adulterated paneer. In Saharanpur’s Rampur Maniharan, 6.30 quintals of suspected illegal paneer were seized. Ghaziabad recorded one of the biggest actions, where within 72 hours, 2,500 kg of paneer and 200 kg of mawa were destroyed after being found unsafe.
The crackdown extended to other regions as well. In Sambhal, a rasgulla manufacturing unit was raided and 225 kg of sweets were destroyed due to suspected adulteration. Meanwhile, in Barabanki, officials collected six samples including khoya, milk, namkeen and coloured kachri for testing. The FSDA has urged consumers to stay alert while buying food items for Holi and report any suspicious products to ensure a safe and healthy festive Ahead of Holi, UP Steps Up Fight Against Food Adulteration, Large Quantities Seized Across State
