Uber, Ola, Rapido Drivers Call ‘All India Breakdown’ on Feb 7, Commuters Brace for Disruptions
New Delhi | 6 Feb 2026
Commuters across India may face travel trouble on Saturday, February 7, as drivers working with app-based platforms like Uber, Ola and Rapido have announced a nationwide strike. The protest, called the ‘All India Breakdown’, will see many drivers switching off their apps at the same time, which could lead to fewer cabs, autos and bike taxis on the road.
The strike has been organised by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) along with other labour groups. Announcing the protest on social media, the union said, “App-based transport workers across India will observe an All India Breakdown on 7 Feb 26. No minimum fares. No regulation. Endless exploitation.” The union claims drivers have been raising issues for years, but their concerns remain unresolved.
In a letter to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, the union highlighted what it called “long-pending and unresolved issues” faced by drivers. It said that companies like Uber, Ola, Rapido and other aggregator platforms decide fares on their own, as there is no government-fixed fare system. According to the union, this leads to “severe income insecurity, exploitation, and unsustainable working conditions” for millions of drivers, while companies continue to make profits.
Drivers have also listed clear demands. These include fixing minimum base fares for app-based services in consultation with driver unions, as suggested under the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025. They have also demanded a ban on using private vehicles for commercial transport unless they are officially converted into commercial vehicles. For commuters, this means possible delays and limited availability of rides on February 7, especially during peak hours. Passengers are advised to plan alternative travel options in advance.

In a letter sent to Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, the union highlighted “long-pending and unresolved issues” faced by drivers. They claimed that companies decide fares on their own, which leads to “severe income insecurity, exploitation, and unsustainable working conditions for millions of transport workers”. The drivers have demanded fixed minimum fares and strict rules for aggregator companies, as mentioned in the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025.
Passengers who depend on app-based transport are advised to plan ahead, as the level of disruption may vary from place to place. Cab, auto and bike taxi availability could be limited, especially during busy morning and evening hours. Commuters are being encouraged to look for alternative travel options on February 7 to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
