Fresh Drone Intrusion Attempts Near LoC Raise Security Alert in Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar | 12 January 2026
Security forces reported multiple drone intrusion attempts near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir last night visuals to footage within a short span of time to in quick succession, prompting swift action by the Indian Army. According to sources, an Army unit opened fire on a Pakistani drone in the Nowshera sector, while several other drones were spotted across different border districts within a short span of time, triggering heightened surveillance and search operations.
Visuals from one of the encounters showed tracer rounds lighting up the night sky as Army machine guns engaged the aerial targets. The scenes drew strong parallels with last year’s Operation Sindoor, during which Indian forces had successfully intercepted and neutralised several Pakistani drones attempting to breach Indian airspace. Officials confirmed that troops are currently combing the affected areas to determine whether the drones dropped weapons, ammunition or narcotics.
The incidents come a day after a drone reportedly crossed over from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and dropped a consignment of arms in the Samba sector. On Monday evening alone, drone sightings were reported in multiple locations. In Rajouri district, a drone with blinking lights was seen around 6.35 pm moving from Dharmsal village in Kalakote towards Bharakh. A similar drone-like object hovered briefly over Chak Babral village in the Ramgarh sector of Samba around 7.15 pm.
Additional sightings were reported in the Poonch district, where a drone-like object was observed moving from Tain towards Topa in the Mankote sector along the LoC at around 6.25 pm. Officials said that at least five Pakistani drone incursions were reported in a single day, marking a sharp spike after a period of relative calm following Operation Sindoor.
Security agencies have repeatedly stated that Pakistan uses drones to drop weapons and drugs on Indian soil and to aid state-sponsored terror groups operating in the region. The latest incidents have once again put border forces on high alert, with intensified monitoring along vulnerable stretches of the LoC to prevent any escalation or infiltration attempts.
Multiple Drone Sightings Near LoC Trigger High Alert in Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar/New Delhi |
The Indian Army thwarted fresh drone intrusion attempts near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday after spotting several unidentified aerial objects in border areas. A Pakistani drone was engaged and fired upon in the Nowshera sector, while multiple other drones were detected across different districts, prompting immediate security action.
Video visuals from the incident showed tracer rounds cutting through the night sky as Army machine guns targeted the drones, reminding many of the intense counter-drone operations carried out during last year’s Operation Sindoor. Security forces have launched extensive search operations to check whether the drones were used to drop weapons, ammunition or narcotics in Indian territory.
The incidents follow a similar episode reported a day earlier, when a drone entering from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir allegedly dropped a cache of arms in the Samba sector. On Monday evening alone, drone sightings were reported in Rajouri, Samba and Poonch districts, with flying objects seen moving across villages close to the LoC within a short time frame.
Officials said that at least five drone intrusions were reported in a single day, marking a significant rise after months of reduced activity. Security agencies have reiterated that such drones are often used by Pakistan to supply arms and drugs to terror networks, leading to heightened vigilance and intensified monitoring along the border.
