Outrage at Hyderabad Temple After Alleged Desecration Sparks Arrest and Political Firestorm
26-year-old man from Karnataka has been arrested for allegedly desecrating the Katta Maisamma Temple in Hyderabad, an incident that has sparked protests and strong political reactions. The accused reportedly entered the temple premises late Saturday night and committed an indecent act near the idol, leading to immediate outrage among local residents.
According to police, the man was confronted by locals at the spot as tensions flared, and a video later surfaced on social media showing him being assaulted by a group before police intervened. To prevent further escalation, law enforcement officials took him into custody and registered a case under relevant provisions for unlawful entry into a place of worship and hurting religious sentiments.
The accused, identified as Altaf from Bidar district in Karnataka, was produced before a city court and sent to judicial custody. Police officials said his background and past record are being verified, adding that the investigation will proceed strictly as per legal procedure.
The incident drew sharp criticism from the BJP and pro-Hindu organisations, who termed the act “blasphemous” and accused the ruling dispensation of remaining silent. Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao visited the temple and strongly condemned the incident, while police appealed to the public to maintain calm and avoid spreading rumours that could disturb communal harmony.
