Mary D’Costa Breaks Silence on Viral Chats Linked to Smriti Mandhana–Palash Muchhal Wedding Controversy

Nov 27, 2025, New Delhi

Mary D’Costa has issued a detailed clarification after screenshots of her alleged chats with composer Palash Muchhal went viral online, adding fuel to the rumours surrounding the sudden postponement of cricketer Smriti Mandhana and Palash’s wedding. The wedding ceremonies had already begun in Sangli with sangeet and haldi when the news of the postponement surfaced, followed by a wave of speculation triggered by circulating chat screenshots. D’Costa, who was dragged into the controversy, explained through an Instagram note that she and Palash were in contact only between April 29 and May 30, 2025, and she never met him in person at any point. She added that she had spoken about these chats earlier in July, but it went unnoticed because Palash was not widely known then. She emphasised that she was not involved with him and firmly denied rumours portraying her as a choreographer connected to the wedding, stating that misinformation had caused confusion about her identity and role.

The issue gained momentum after the screenshots, initially shared on Reddit from an account that was later deactivated, spread rapidly on social media. D’Costa stated that she was neither the choreographer nor the person Palash allegedly cheated with and urged people not to assume the worst based on incomplete information. Meanwhile, the wedding was officially put on hold after Smriti Mandhana’s father reportedly suffered a heart-related health scare at the venue, and Palash himself was later hospitalised in Mumbai due to stress and exhaustion. What intensified online speculation was Smriti deleting all her engagement and pre-wedding posts from Instagram, followed by friends like Jemimah Rodrigues removing their videos as well. Amid the mounting scrutiny, Palash’s cousin Neeti Tak defended him on Instagram, requesting that people refrain from judging him based on unverified rumours and instead pray for his recovery. The situation remains sensitive, with both families maintaining privacy as the internet continues to debate what truly led to the wedding’s postponement.
