A major security incident unfolded in Peshawar on Monday morning after gunmen and suicide bombers targeted the headquarters of Pakistan’s Frontier Constabulary, a key paramilitary force. The attack, carried out in a crowded area near a military cantonment, left at least three people dead and triggered a massive response from security forces.

According to early reports, two suicide attackers were involved. The first bomber detonated explosives at the main entrance of the compound, while the second managed to enter the facility before setting off another blast. Gunmen also opened fire, leading to a prolonged exchange with security personnel.

A senior official, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said that the area has been sealed off and that forces are proceeding cautiously because they suspect more attackers may still be inside the complex. Army units, police teams, and other law enforcement groups quickly cordoned off the surrounding streets, blocking traffic and securing nearby buildings to prevent further danger.

Residents living close to the area reported hearing loud blasts followed by continuous gunfire. Several videos circulating online show security personnel taking positions and moving cautiously around the compound, though these clips could not be independently verified.

The chaos around FC Chowk in the Sadar area caused a wave of panic, with ambulances rushing to the scene and emergency teams working to control the situation. Officials confirmed that firing continued even after the explosions as forces tried to neutralise any remaining threats.

Zulfiqar Hameed, the Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, confirmed that two suicide bombings had taken place inside the paramilitary headquarters. He said the situation was still being monitored closely, and further details would be shared once the area was fully secured.

This attack is the latest in a troubling trend. Earlier this year, a deadly car bomb outside the paramilitary headquarters in Quetta killed at least ten people and injured many more. Security analysts warn that such repeated strikes signal a rising threat to Pakistan’s key security installations, especially in regions already grappling with instability.

As investigations begin, authorities are expected to examine how the attackers managed to breach a high-security area and whether there were intelligence gaps. For now, the city remains tense as officials work to restore order and ensure the safety of residents.
