New Delhi | October 21, 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Deepavali message to the nation on Tuesday, connected the spirit of the festival with the ideals of Lord Ram and India’s recent military success, Operation Sindoor. He said the operation reflected the very essence of Lord Ram’s teachings—to uphold righteousness and confront injustice with courage and conviction.

“This is the second Deepavali after the grand construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya,” PM Modi wrote. “Lord Shri Ram inspires us to uphold dharma and gives us the strength to fight injustice. Operation Sindoor stands as a living example of this spirit—when Bharat not only upheld righteousness but also avenged wrongs committed against it.”

The Prime Minister emphasized that this year’s Deepavali holds a deeper national significance, symbolizing peace, progress, and unity. He announced that for the first time, lamps will be lit in several districts, including those once affected by Naxalism and Maoist violence. “This Deepavali is particularly special,” he said. “For the first time, diyas will illuminate regions where Naxalism and Maoist terrorism have been eradicated. Those who once chose the path of violence are now embracing development—a major achievement for our nation.”

Reflecting on India’s economic progress, Modi highlighted recent reforms and fiscal measures that have benefited ordinary citizens. He mentioned the government’s decision to reduce GST rates during Navratri, describing it as part of the ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ that has saved citizens “thousands of crores of rupees.”

Addressing global and domestic challenges, the Prime Minister said India’s resilience amid worldwide crises has made it a “symbol of both stability and sensitivity.” He expressed confidence that India is on course to becoming the world’s third-largest economy, driven by the collective efforts of its citizens and government initiatives.

Calling upon every Indian to contribute to the nation’s vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), PM Modi urged people to choose local products, promote cleanliness, and prioritize health. “In this journey towards a self-reliant and developed Bharat, our greatest duty is to fulfill our responsibilities as citizens. Let us proudly adopt Swadeshi, respect every language, keep our surroundings clean, and promote fitness through Yoga,” he said.

PM Modi concluded his message with a reflection on the spiritual symbolism of Deepavali, urging citizens to spread unity and positivity. “Deepavali teaches us that when one lamp lights another, its glow only grows brighter,” he said. “Let us illuminate our homes and hearts with lamps of harmony, cooperation, and goodwill. Together, we can light up the path to a brighter and stronger Bharat.”

He extended his warm wishes to all Indians at home and abroad, saying, “May this Deepavali bring light, hope, and prosperity to every household.”
