I Am Being Vegetarian Now’: Priyanka Chopra Shares Her Favorite Meals in India and the US And Why They’re Good for You

New Delhi | July 20, 2025

Global icon and Bollywood's beloved Desi Girl, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, recently opened up about her food preferences during the promotions of her latest film Heads of State. While she now lives mostly in the US, Priyanka says her heart (and stomach) still craves home-style Indian food and she’s recently embraced a vegetarian lifestyle.

“Dinner always starts with soup. I love having a nice, warm soup,” she shared during the interview. “Then, I have the same food that I usually eat for lunch - dal, bhindi, aloo gobhi. I’m being vegetarian now. And I always need dahi; I love having raita. Achaar is very important. And salad’s very important too,” she added.

While in the US, however, her food choices shift slightly. “I’m usually not a sandwich person. I don’t like sandwiches. But I love roast fish with veggies and a good, fresh salad.”

Priyanka’s switch to vegetarianism comes as part of a growing global trend of plant-based eating, and dietitians say her go-to meal choices are actually packed with health benefits.

Nutritionist Pooja Bohra points out that starting meals with warm soup not only comforts the stomach but also provides hydration, fiber, antioxidants, and essential nutrients, all while helping reduce the intake of calorie-dense foods later in the meal.

Curd, or dahi, is another staple in Priyanka’s diet. Dietitian Kanikka Malhotra explains that curd is full of probiotics like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, which support gut health, reduce inflammation, and enhance digestion. Regular consumption of curd may even help reduce the risk of conditions like IBS and improve nutrient absorption. However, she cautions that eating curd with spicy dishes may cause discomfort for those with sensitive stomachs due to the contrast in temperatures.

Salads are another important part of Priyanka’s daily meals. According to Sushma PS, chief dietitian at Jindal Naturecure Institute, salads are alkaline and fiber-rich, helping detox the body, support digestion, and balance internal pH levels. Ingredients like cucumber, lettuce, carrots, and greens are not only rich in vitamins and minerals but also easy on the stomach and hydrating, perfect for the hot Indian summer or dry American climates.

Priyanka’s food choices reflect a healthy balance between taste, tradition, and nutrition. Her fondness for Indian classics like dal and bhindi shows her strong cultural roots, while her roasted veggies and salad plates in the US show how she adapts to a global lifestyle without compromising on health.

As more celebrities speak out about conscious eating, Priyanka’s simple, vegetarian meals are a reminder that good food doesn’t have to be complicated. It just has to be nourishing, comforting, and something that makes you feel at home, wherever you are in the world.
