Six Killed, Two Injured as Omni Van Collides with Trailer Truck in Kushinagar

Lucknow, November 02, 2026

A late-night road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district claimed six lives and left two others seriously injured after an Omni van and a trailer truck collided head-on. The crash, which occurred when the occupants were returning from a family engagement ceremony, was so severe that the van was crushed, trapping all eight passengers inside and triggering an extensive rescue operation.

According to police, the accident took place around 12:15 am on the Hata-Pipraich road, near Tharuadih Hanuman temple, under Hata police station limits. The van, carrying eight men, was travelling from Hata towards Kaptanganj when it collided with a trailer approaching from Ahirauli Bazaar. The impact left six occupants dead at the scene. Rescue teams had to use gas cutters to break open the severely damaged vehicle and pull out those trapped inside.

The deceased were identified as Mridul Mishra (38), Kanhaiya Prasad (45), Mithilesh Gupta (22), Ranjay Gupta (38), Ram Milan (38) and Ramvilas (68). All six belonged to Bhaluhi village in Kaptanganj. Kanhaiya Prasad was reportedly the representative of the village head, while Ram Milan was his younger brother and Ramvilas their father. Ranjay Gupta was serving in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and was posted in Chhattisgarh. He had returned home on leave for Dussehra and was due to resume duty on November 5.

The two injured, identified as Ayush (14) and Aryan (19), both sons of Ram Milan, were initially taken to the Community Health Centre in Hata before being referred to BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur for further treatment. The collision also left the trailer's cabin badly damaged, while debris from the van was scattered across the road. Police reached the spot, carried out the rescue operation, sent the six bodies for post-mortem examination and seized both vehicles. The trailer driver could not be traced immediately. The tragedy has left the village mourning the loss of six residents, while the two injured continue to receive medical attention.
