Jio Platforms IPO Draws Massive Demand, Fully Subscribed in 100 Minutes
New Delhi, 21 October 2026
Jio Platforms’ ₹30,213 crore IPO made a strong debut in the primary market, attracting investor bids at a rapid pace on its opening day. The issue was fully subscribed within 100 minutes, with total applications covering 3.16 times the 19.75 crore shares available across investor categories. Investors collectively placed bids for 62.4 crore shares, with institutional participation emerging as a major driver of the early response.
Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) displayed particularly strong interest in the offering. Against their reserved quota of 4.9 crore shares, they bid for 46.15 crore shares, taking demand to roughly nine times the allocated amount. Domestic financial institutions accounted for the largest portion of institutional bids, seeking 25.9 crore shares. Foreign institutional investors followed with bids for 16.18 crore shares. Mutual funds placed bids for 3.18 crore shares, while other QIBs sought 86.8 lakh shares.
The offering also attracted participation from individual and non-institutional investors. Retail applicants bid for around 73% of the 8.5 crore shares reserved for them on the first day. Non-institutional investors submitted bids for 6.12 crore shares, exceeding their allocated quota of 3.6 crore shares by 1.68 times. Within this category, non-institutional individual investors placed bids for 2.4 crore shares, contributing to the issue’s overall subscription figures.
With an estimated valuation of $108 billion, Jio Platforms is valued above Facebook’s $104 billion valuation at the time of its IPO. The company’s market debut is therefore attracting attention beyond India, given its potential standing among major global technology businesses. The IPO, worth approximately $3.2 billion, is also being discussed alongside major public offerings such as SpaceX’s $85.7 billion issue and SK Hynix’s $26.5 billion offering.
Deven Choksey, Managing Director of DRChoksey Finserv, highlighted the potential implications of Jio’s expected market position, saying, “This will be the fifth largest in terms of market cap in the world post listing. This would mean 6 months post listing, the stock will enter the derivatives market and MSCI Index. So allocation will naturally come in.” The substantial demand recorded on the first day has put Jio Platforms’ IPO firmly in the spotlight. Investors will now watch how the issue progresses and whether the company’s anticipated market standing translates into sustained interest after listing.
