India delivered a strong performance in the men’s 10m air rifle final at the Asian Games on Monday, securing both silver and bronze in a fiercely contested event. Himanshu Dhillon finished second with 252.4 points, while Rudrankksh Patil took third with 230.9 points. China’s reigning Olympic champion Sheng Lihao claimed the gold medal with a Games Record score of 254.2 points.

Rudrankksh started the final impressively, topping the standings after the first 10 shots with 106.0 points. Sheng followed with 104.9, while Himanshu was close behind on 104.8. As the elimination stage progressed, both Indians continued to remain among the leading shooters, with Himanshu moving into second after producing a series of high scores, including back-to-back 10.9s.

The contest remained tight as Sheng gradually reduced the gap. Rudrankksh was still leading after the second elimination, with Himanshu in third, but Sheng soon moved into first place. Once Mongolia’s Bayaraa Nyantai was eliminated, India was guaranteed two medals. At that stage, Sheng led with 211.6 points, followed by Rudrankksh at 210.6 and Himanshu at 210.0.

The closing phase became a battle between the two Indian shooters for silver and bronze, with Sheng holding the advantage for gold. Himanshu moved ahead of Rudrankksh after registering a 10.8, while Rudrankksh dropped to third following a 9.7. He responded with a 10.6, but Himanshu maintained his advantage with a 10.4.

Sheng eventually secured gold with a final 10.6, taking his score to a Games Record 254.2. Himanshu finished second on 252.4 after narrowing the gap in the closing shots, while Rudrankksh’s 230.9 secured bronze. The double podium added two more medals to India’s shooting campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
