A major industrial accident occurred in Prayagraj on Monday afternoon after an ammonia gas tank exploded at a cold storage facility, leading to the collapse of the building’s roof and trapping several workers under the debris.The incident took place at a cold storage unit owned by former minister Ansar Ahmad, located near Chandapur village on Lucknow Road in the Gangapar area. According to initial reports, more than 15 workers were present at the site when the explosion occurred.
Officials said the blast happened when an ammonia-filled tank suddenly burst while potatoes were being stored inside the facility. The impact of the explosion was so intense that it caused a portion of the structure to collapse, trapping workers beneath the rubble.Emergency teams, including police and fire personnel, rushed to the spot soon after receiving information. However, rescue efforts have been severely affected due to the continuous leakage of ammonia gas, making it difficult for teams to enter the premises safely.
So far, few workers have been pulled out from the debris and sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. The condition of several others trapped inside remains uncertain.
