High Stakes for Rishabh Pant Ahead of IPL 2026, Says Faf du Plessis

New Delhi | March 22, 2026

As the Indian Premier League 2026 approaches, all eyes are on Rishabh Pant, who will lead Lucknow Super Giants in the upcoming season. After a challenging 2025 campaign, Pant will be looking to make a strong comeback when his team begins its journey against Delhi Capitals on April 1 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis believes that Pant could be under the most pressure among all players this season. Pant, who became the most expensive player in IPL history with a ₹27 crore deal last year, struggled to meet expectations during the previous season.

Despite scoring a century, Pant’s overall performance in IPL 2025 remained below expectations. He managed 269 runs in 13 matches at an average of 24.45, with his century coming when the team was already out of playoff contention. His form, along with the team’s failure to qualify for the playoffs, has added to the pressure ahead of the new season.

Du Plessis noted that while some players thrive under pressure, others find it challenging. He added that Pant’s performance as both a batter and captain will be crucial for the team’s success. A strong start with the bat could help ease the pressure, but overall team performance will also play a key role in shaping the season for Lucknow Super Giants.
